She's fierce, sharp, and a true creative. Born in South African but raised in South Florida, Adela weaves a story in every song she writes. We caught up with the hip-hop songstress and got the scoop on her inspirations, her advice for new artists, and more.
Q: What is the story behind 'Pretty Girls'?
I wanted to release a super fun, upbeat record that was also an anthem for young girls! Especially at a time where beauty standards can be unrealistic and we are absolutely glued to social media due to the pandemic.
Q: Who in the music industry - past and present - are your greatest influences?
I have been heavily influenced by such a large range of artists, but I will say my super squad has to be Nas, Tupac, Frank Sinatra, Freddie Mercury and Lauryn Hill.
Q: What advice do you have for new artists trying to break into the industry?
Be yourself! Don't follow the trends, go with your gut and music you can stand by. Also remember why you started making music in the first place. We all have a deep love for it- never lose that even when things get rocky.
Q. What's the coolest place you've ever performed?
There was once this tiny bar that had a loft area and I did a few records and people were so live and the energy was so real, it felt amazing. I don't care if I'm performing in front of 6 people or 600, I'll give my 100%, so when I get that back, it's dope!
Q. What's next for AdELA?
Just continuing to do what I love, making music and releasing it. As long as my fans support me and I feel good about what I do, I'm all the way in!
